What You Need To Know
LEAD PAINT RULE
If your home was built prior to 1978 and you plan to hire someone to do some remodeling or painting, make sure that person is a Certified Renovator with an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm. Under the new RRP rule, effective April 10, 2010 contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb 6 square feet (Hud or Fed Housing is 2 square foot) of paint in homes or child occupied facilities built before 1978 must be Certified Renovators and must follow specific work practices to prevent contamination from lead dust. For more information go to http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochure.pdf
ALUMINUM WIRING
If your home was built or had any rooms added between 1965 and mid 1970’s it may have been wired with aluminum wiring, which has been determined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to be 55 times more likely to have one or more connections reach “Fire Hazard Conditions” than homes wired with copper. Because of this, Florida Insurance Companies, including Citizens, are no longer willing to insure these homes unless they are rewired with copper. You may want to have your wiring inspected and find out your options to remedy this potential problem. For more information go to http://www.floridahomeinspectionteam.net/?p=424
Woodworth Services, in alliance with a licensed Electrician can inspect for aluminum wiring in your home and make the acceptable repairs or rewire with copper wiring. If the walls were painted with a lead-based paint (as some older homes were) and that paint has to be disturbed to make the repairs, we are trained and certified by the EPA to deal with the repairs safely.
